With the overall goal of reducing the risk of costly and dangerous dam failures, Enviro is developing the only all-in-one risk governance platform designed specifically for tailings, minewaste, and water management geo-infrastructure, aligned with current global industry standards. Enviro also regularly collaborates to design, develop and deliver workshops and educational training in the realm of risk identification, assessment, reduction, and change management for effective stewardship of tailings and water management systems, as well as for incorporating sustainability aspects into project planning and decision-making.
Karen Chovan
A proven leader in mine waste management, governance, and sustainability, Karen Chovan brings 25 years of experience transforming the mining sector. As CEO & Founder of Enviro Integration Strategies Inc., she has pioneered risk reduction strategies and software solutions aligned with industry best practices, including TSM, RGMP, Copper Mark, and GISTM. Passionate about preventing catastrophic tailings failures, she integrates risk management, sustainability, and stakeholder collaboration to drive best practices globally.
She has held multiple non-profit board and leadership roles, including nearly a decade on the CIM ESRS Executive. She recently won the CIM Sustainable Development Award, and now leads the ESRS Tailings Working Group, tasked with designing and delivering industry training workshops and webinars on responsible tailings management. Ms. Chovan also regularly contributes to professional development programs, for various academic institutions.
