Frequently Asked Questions
Anyone can attend the WESK AGM! However, you must be an active member (Momentum or Elevate) to vote.
All members are welcome to participate – regardless if you are attending Summit. If you are planning to only attend the AGM, please arrive 5-10 minutes early and head to the Beaver/Deer/Eagle room.
- As we move through the agenda, the meeting chair will ask a fellow Board Director to make a motion. This is a statement that formally proposes making a decision or taking specific action.
- Then, the meeting chair will ask for a member to second the motion, which means that they agree to move forward to a vote. If you would like to second a motion, you can raise your hand, and a WESK team member will bring you a microphone. Please stand and state your full name for the official meeting record.
- Before we proceed to a vote, the meeting chair will open the floor for discussion. If you want to share your thoughts or ask a question, raise your hand.
- If there is no discussion or the discussion has concluded, we will move to a vote. Again, only full members – those with active Momentum or Elevate memberships – are eligible to vote. The meeting chair will first ask those in favour of the motion to raise their hand, followed by those opposed.
- If the members have voted in favour of the motion, the Meeting Chair will declare the motion carried.
Example:
Meeting Chair: “The Board would like to recommend that Candidate A join the Board of Directors for a one-year term. May I have a motion?”
Director: “I move that Candidate A be elected as a WESK Board Director.”
Meeting Chair: “May I have someone second the motion?”
A member will raise their hand and state their first and last name.
Meeting Chair: “The motion is now open for discussion. If there is no discussion, all in favour of the motion, please raise your hand. Opposed?”
Meeting Chair: “I declare the motion carried.”
If you are interested in joining our Board of Directors, please keep an eye out for future calls, which are typically announced in April or May. Make sure to sign up for our e-newsletter, too!
